1 death attributed to Tuesday’s quake

? The magnitude 6.5 earthquake that jolted Japan shortly after 5 a.m. Tuesday killed one woman near Tokyo and injured at least 100 people in the capital and the prefectures of Shizuoka, Aichi and Kanagawa.

Following the earthquake, the Meteolorogical Agency announced at 11:20 a.m. that the quake was not directly linked to the so-called Tokai earthquake, a massive temblor that experts fear will strike the Tokai region in the near future.

The quake was the second of two that struck at opposite ends of Asia just 12 minutes apart Tuesday. The first quake, which registered magnitude 7.6 according to the U.S. Geological Survey, hit the Indian Ocean about 160 miles north of Port Blair in India’s Andaman Islands.
