About 325 Douglas County Westar Energy customers without power

Strong winds and heavy rains batter a convenience store off of I-70 in Salina as a strong line of storms moves through central Kansas, eventually possibly making it to Lawrence.

4:30 p.m. About 325 Douglas County Westar Energy customers were without power Monday afternoon.

A line of storms moved through the area earlier Monday, but the strongest wind was well south of the Lawrence area.

The outages were concentrated in three areas in Lawrence: 23rd and Iowa streets, 6th and Michigan streets and 15th and Harper streets.

Other customers in rural Douglas County south of Lawrence were also without power.

3:29 p.m. The severe thunderstorm watch for Douglas County and nearby areas has been canceled.

1:53 p.m. The severe thunderstorm warning in effect for southern Douglas County has been canceled as the storm front continues to shift southward.

The warning continues for areas south of Douglas County. A severe thunderstorm watch, however, remains in effect until 4 p.m.

1:37 p.m. The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southern Douglas County and all of Franklin County until 2:30 p.m.

Weather service radar indicated a storm capable of producing quarter-sized hail and damaging winds with speed in excess of 80 mph was moving toward the area.

The severe thunderstorm watch continues for northern Douglas County and the city of Lawrence.

11:32 a.m. Just five Douglas County Westar Energy customers are still without power.

A strong line of thunderstorms was located in the vicinity of Salina and moving east slowly. The storm has produced severe thunderstorm warnings in central Kansas as it produces quarter-sized hail and damaging winds of 80 to 90 mph.

9:53 a.m. About 40 Douglas County Westar Energy customers are currently without power. Strong storms overnight also contributed to outages around Douglas County, including at least one in an area of northwest Lawrence that saw its power go out early in the evening, come back and then go out again for much of the night.

9:37 a.m. The National Weather service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch that lasts until 4 p.m. Monday for much of northeastern and northern Kansas, that includes Douglas and Jefferson counties.
