Ottawa’s season ends

? Ottawa bolted to a five-run lead in the first inning and banged out 13 hits, but two big innings doomed the Legion baseball team to a season-ending 15-7 loss Saturday to Faith Lutheran Las Vegas in the Legion AA Midwest Regional.

Up 5-0 after one, Ottawa — which won its first 44 games before suffering a regional setback Friday — added a single run in the top of the second before Faith Lutheran scored eight in the bottom of the second.

A seven-run fourth sealed it for the Las Vegas squad, which had 14 hits and took advantage of five Ottawa errors.

Blake Firestone, Spencer Hawkins, Connor Goedert, Dylan Nelson and Carson Dunlap each had two hits for Ottawa. Dunlap and Chase Dengel each had a home run.

Late Friday night, Ottawa improved to 45-1 with a 5-1 victory over Viroqua.

Curtis Clayton threw a complete-game seven-hitter in that game.

Goedert paced the offense by going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Dengel was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.
