Members of Eudora Boy Scout Troop 64 traveled July 31 and Aug. 1 to the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson. The Friday night campout was affected by a late-night storm with thunder, lightning and rain. Scouts and Scouters were up early Saturday to visit the Cosmosphere. They toured the museum, which contained many items related to the U.S. space program during the past 45 years, saw an IMAX presentation on dinosaurs and archeology, viewed the night sky-constellation program in the planetarium, and participated in the Dr. Goddard rocket lab experiments. The troop met Cosmosphere president and CEO Chris Orwoll and his family in the afternoon. Orwoll, formerly of Eudora, knew many of the Scouts and adults. He gave the troop a special tour of the museum’s archives including the main entrance hatch from the Apollo 13 spacecraft and a close-up view of several of the original space suits worn by astronauts.

Scouts attending were Connor Bradley, Nathan Bradley, Patrick Bradley, Andrew Briery, Andrew Rome and Nathan Gentleman. They were accompanied by Scoutmaster Glenn Jackson, assistant Scoutmaster Damon Bradley, Duane Gentleman, Heidi Briery, John and Amye Scott and Elizabeth Bradley.
