Lawrence resident arrested for alleged attempted murder

Police said they apprehended a Lawrence man Thursday who was wanted for an alleged attempted murder.

James “Jimmy” McAdams, 19, was arrested in Topeka without incident, said Lawrence Police Sgt. Mike Monroe. A warrant had been issued for his arrest.

Charges of attempted second degree murder and criminal possession of a firearm were filed against the man, a spokeswoman for Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson said. McAdams was in court for his first appearance on Friday.

Police said he fired shots at a 20-year-old Kansas City, Mo., man just before 2 a.m. June 19, after a robbery attempt near 24th Street and Murphy Drive, southeast of 23rd and Iowa streets. No injuries were reported.
