Topeka ? The Kansas Board of Education meets next week to begin discussing its legislative agenda for 2010.

The board has already decided to request a $282 million increase in funding for elementary and secondary education. The board wants legislators to fund schools at the level required by state law despite declining revenues.

Legislators trimmed K-12 spending by $163 million for the upcoming academic year. Lawmakers used federal stimulus funds to avoid even deeper cuts.

The Board of Education meets Aug. 11 and 12 in Topeka.
