Seattle releases Wahle

Renton, Wash. — Two-time Pro Bowl offensive guard Mike Wahle has been released by the Seattle Seahawks before their first practice of training camp.

Wahle was released before the Seahawks took the field Friday afternoon. He underwent a physical on Friday morning.

Seattle also signed veteran offensive lineman Cory Withrow, a former Washington State Cougar.

Knowshon a no-show

Englewood, Colo. — Knowshon was a no-show, and Champ Bailey a no-go. Knowshon Moreno was absent along with fellow first-round draft pick Robert Ayers when the Denver Broncos kicked off training camp Friday under new coach Josh McDaniels, making them the first rookie holdouts in Denver since running back Tatum Bell showed up late in 2004.

Bailey, the perennial Pro Bowl cornerback who suffered through an injury-filled 2008 season and underwent offseason elbow surgery, recently said he was 100 percent. But he was held out of the team’s first workout along with defensive tackle Marcus Thomas and safety Renaldo Hill.

Brady says he will play

Foxborough, Mass. — New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady expects to be on the field in exhibition games next month — his first action since injuring his knee in the 2008 regular-season opener.

“Yeah, I think I’ll play,” he told reporters after practice on Friday. “I mean, last year it wasn’t like I wasn’t supposed to play. I would have loved to have played. Just some circumstances came up where I couldn’t.”

After missing the entire preseason last year with an unspecified foot injury, the two-time Super Bowl Most Valuable Player — and 2007 NFL MVP — was playing the first quarter of the first game last season when his knee collapsed on a hit from Kansas City Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard. He missed the rest of the season.

Back on the field for training camp this week, Brady admitted to some arm soreness as he works to get back into football shape.

“It feels pretty good, and then you come out and do four or five practices in a row and it doesn’t feel as hot, so it’s part of what training camp is about,” he said. “The soreness becomes a part of the practices and you just have to do a good job of taking care of yourself. My arm was in really good shape coming in. It still feels like it’s in good shape, so hopefully it stays that way.”

Colts assistants return

Indianapolis — Longtime Colts assistant coaches Tom Moore and Howard Mudd are returning from retirement.

Coach Jim Caldwell announced on Friday that Moore, the offensive coordinator, and Mudd, the offensive line coach, would be back with the team after saying they would retire because of changes to the NFL pension plan.

Vick plan to get vote

Newport News, Va. — Though a judge ruled that Michael Vick’s bankruptcy plan can be sent to creditors to vote on, it remains unclear how the out-of-work quarterback will get the income to pay them.

Vick declined to answer reporters’ questions before and after a hearing Friday on his Chapter 11 bankruptcy plan. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Frank Santoro ruled that the plan can move forward after nobody objected.

The plan now goes to Vick’s creditors. After they vote, Santoro will conduct a confirmation hearing on Aug. 27.
