Several high school sports events postponed because of heavy rains

Rain, rain go away.

For the second straight day, Lawrence High and Free State High have had a handful of athletic events washed because of heavy rains.

Here’s a list of today’s events that have been postponed thus far. No make-up dates for any of the events have been set yet.

Lawrence High

JV and Varsity soccer at Leavenworth

JV and Varsity softball at Olathe East

Varsity baseball at home vs. Olathe East

Free State High

JV and Varsity softball vs. SM West

* JV and Varsity baseball at Olathe South

With all other outdoor sports competitions washed out, the only outdoor high school event going on today is the Sunflower League tennis tournament, which has been moved indoors and is currently being played in Overland Park. The doubles matches have been moved to Woodside Country Club and the singles matches are being played at the Kansas City Racquet Club.

Free State High tennis coach John Richey said the facilities only have three courts apiece and that the progress has been slowed substantially because of that. Richey had no idea when the event might finish and said there has been talk about returning to the venues Friday around 3 p.m. to finish up the tourney.
