LHS baseball edges Vikes

? Aaron Rea scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Devin Forio in the top of the seventh, and Lawrence High’s baseball team made several key defensive plays to beat Shawnee Mission West, 4-3, on Tuesday at the Johnson County 3&2 fields.

Rea led off the seventh with a double and advanced on a wild pitch before scoring on Forio’s sacrifice fly.

Rea also had one of the Lions’ defensive gems when he made a diving catch with runners on second and third in the fifth, then doubled up the runner at second.

Chris Parker also had a big defensive play on a slow roller in the third, and the Lions turned a double play in the sixth.

“We made some big defensive plays,” Lawrence coach Brad Stoll said. “We really did some good things defensively, and we had some timely at-bats. It’s just frustrating that we only had four hits tonight. We bashed the ball all over the yard last week. Tonight we just couldn’t put quality at-bats together.”

Andy Urban (2-2) picked up the win in relief of starter Dorian Green.

Lawrence (10-4) will play host to Olathe East on Thursday at Ice Field.
