High speed chase passes through Lawrence, ends near K-7

A driver led authorities on a high-speed chase Friday morning along Interstate 70, which grazed the northern end of Lawrence before ending in a spin-out just short of Kansas Highway 7 in Wyandotte County.

The driver, whose Honda passenger car reached speeds of up to 120 miles an hour, was taken into custody just before 11 a.m. Friday, then transported to the Wabaunsee County Jail, the Kansas Highway Patrol said.

Authorities in Wabaunsee County said they didn’t have any information about the driver, nor the circumstances surrounding the person’s incarceration.

The chase started at 10:21 a.m., the patrol said, when authorities heard about a reckless driver heading east on the interstate at its interchange with Kansas Highway 185 in Wabaunsee County.

The driver entered the Kansas Turnpike in Topeka and passed through the eastern terminal. Authorities managed to stop the driver by placing spikes on the interstate before the interchange with Kansas Highway 7, forcing the driver to spin out and be taken into custody, the patrol said.
