A driver led authorities on a high-speed chase Friday morning along Interstate 70, which grazed the northern end of Lawrence before ending in a spin-out just short of Kansas Highway 7 in Wyandotte County.

The driver, whose Honda passenger car reached speeds of up to 120 miles an hour, was taken into custody just before 11 a.m. Friday, then transported to the Wabaunsee County Jail, the Kansas Highway Patrol said.

Authorities in Wabaunsee County said they didn’t have any information about the driver, nor the circumstances surrounding the person’s incarceration.

The chase started at 10:21 a.m., the patrol said, when authorities heard about a reckless driver heading east on the interstate at its interchange with Kansas Highway 185 in Wabaunsee County.

The driver entered the Kansas Turnpike in Topeka and passed through the eastern terminal. Authorities managed to stop the driver by placing spikes on the interstate before the interchange with Kansas Highway 7, forcing the driver to spin out and be taken into custody, the patrol said.

Maybe they wanted to alert anyone who may be headed to the turnpike of possible delays and problems. Not too mention the possible danger of avoiding an idiot like this.

Unless you've got a super car or a sport bike, you're not getting away....

Highway 7 and the turnpike. What is up with that spot. Seems to be the place where high speed chases go to die lately. http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2009/apr...

Or is there something there that everybody is in a real big hurry to see?

Last I checked, your gsxr isn't going to outrun radio signals...let alone a helicopter.

Especially not a 600 :P

Did I say it would camflan? I sportbike can go 160-200mph, enough to outrun a patrol car easily and probably enough time to evade before a chopper can get up!

I would also like to see cops use their "radio signals" to set up spike strips to take a motorcycle out. That will not happen. Most states and countries have a do not chase policy when it comes to bikes, for good reason.

The chases are getting better all the time. The first was 40mph, the second around 100 and now we are up to 120. Is there a contest out there? Anyone see the latest Fast and Furious? Anyone know about stunt drivers and closed sets?
