Dry cleaner installs new nontoxic system

April 23, 2009

Eco-Logic Dry Cleaners, 2540 Iowa, Suite A, has installed a GreenEarth Cleaning system to replace the petroleum-based chemicals used in old-fashioned dry-cleaning systems with a nontoxic, silicone-based process. The process, which is billed as leaving clothes softer, brighter and smelling fresher, can be used safely on many fabrics and trims, from suede to sequins.

The cleaning system is also environmentally safe, with none of the toxic disposal problems associated with a solvent called perchloroethylene, commonly known as “perc.” Most commercial dry cleaners use perc, which has been the industry standard since the 1930s.

This combination of advantages has led the developers of the GreenEarth Cleaning system to adopt the slogan, “It’s good for everybody.”
