Police seek four suspects after strong-arm robbery

April 17, 2009

Lawrence Police are seeking four male suspects in connection with an early Friday morning strong-arm robbery.

Police were called at 1:16 a.m. Friday to the 1200 block of Ohio Street, where a 20-year-old female reported her purse stolen. The female victim was walking northbound along Ohio Street with a 22-year-old man when the pair was approached by four men walking southbound.

The suspects - two white men and two black men - blocked the path of the male victim, knocked the female to the ground and stole her purse, according to Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan Hadl. The suspects took off running northeast between nearby houses toward Tennessee Street.

"We were in the area fairly quickly after the incident but couldn't find any witnesses to offer any other leads," Hadl said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police department at 832-7509 or leave an anonymous message on the TIPS hot line at 832-TIPS (8471).

Note to self: Sometimes it's not safe to go for a walk after 1:00 AM.

Must of been cross dressers and needed a purse to complete the outfit. Money didn't have anythng to with it. If she was like the rest of us, she didn't have any left after taxes.

Lawrence is too much like Hollywood. It's a magical place, but after midnight, it's nothing but freaks.

Just happy to have a conceal carry permit. May not have shot one of them, but my girl would still have her purse. Thanks Kansas!

They were coming to or from the bar, so wouldn't have been able to have a gun, tym4fun.

Here we go again. Concealed carry solves everything, right? What happens when everyone has guns? Everyone already has fists and that doesn't stop people from using them against each other. So instead four dudes against one couple, it could have been four guns against one or two. Guns aren't the answer, they just raise the stakes that you're playing for. The victim in this case walked away, albeit with a bruised ego. Add guns to the mix and he might not have.

tym4fun I agree. Second Amendment protects me and whats mine. They can then decide how badly they want my purse. Its not worth getting shot over and if they want one that badly i tell them where i bought it so they can do they same. I worked hard for it and i plan to keep it.

What if she carried a gun in the purse they snatched?

woodenfleaeater 9 years ago

That would mean 2fat4u got her purse stolen.

Bunch of savages in this town. THE ARTICLE SAID, TWO WHITE AND TWO BLACKS?

woodenfleaeater 9 years ago

I would think. He/she states that he/she carries a gun in her/his purse w/ his/her cc license. Unless 2fat is a man and carries a purse due the the inability to reach around and pull a wallet out of the back pocket.

When it comes to a sudden, late night mugging the idea of useful armed resistance seems to me like pure, fear-suppressing fantasy.

8ball 9 years ago

wow, didnt think i'd read 2fat & reach around in the same sentence on this page

pure, fear-suppressing fantasy. +++ It is. CCrs are proud to announce their cowardice on these forums and are quicker to play out their rambo/eastwood fatasies vicariously by celebrating a crime victim's misfortune. Sorry, sad little lot.
