KU women sign guard

Rhea Codio, a 5-foot-8 guard from Independence Community College, on Wednesday signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Kansas University, coach Bonnie Henrickson announced.

The 5-foot-8 Codio averaged 16.0 points and 7.0 assists last season.

It'll be nice to have a point guard who isn't pass first, pass second, pass third.

Who are you talking about, Phogfan86? KU guards did a good job this year, considering how far they went.

Guards and point guards are different animals. Catic was, I'm sure, a hard worker and a terrific young woman, but in the games I attended, KU was playing 4 on 5 when they were on offense, and the other teams knew they could back off Catic once she crossed half-court because she wasn't going to shoot and she wasn't going to the basket to either (a) score or (b) dish for an open 3.

In the old days, you killed for a girl who could handle the ball like she does and you didn't care if she could shoot or not. Now, that girl also has to make the other team respect her offensively or you end up a man short on the offensive end.
