Empty-nesters settle in at Lake View Villas

Bruce and Harlanne Roberts live at Lake View Villas, southwest Lawrence, where their love for extensive travel is reflected in their décor.

As Bruce and Harlanne Roberts became empty-nesters, they searched for a home better suited to their new lifestyle. They found what they were looking for at Lake View Villas, a maintenance-provided community of clustered fourplex homes near Clinton Lake in southwest Lawrence.

A location with a view was a top priority of their home search.

“We spend 80 percent of our time in this room,” says Bruce Roberts of their sunroom, which overlooks a peaceful Alvamar meadow where deer are frequent visitors.

The couples’ shared appreciation of art, extensive travels and creative personalities are generously reflected in the home’s striking décor. A Robert Sudlow piece above the fireplace sits opposite a wall-mounted house shield from New Guinea, while a Brazilian headpiece complements a nearby Haitian wall hanging.

Personal mementos and family treasures are engagingly displayed in eye-catching collections by Harlanne Roberts, whose background in textiles and design adds to her deft decorating talents.
