Funding considererd for planned KU incubator facility

City commissioners will consider providing $75,000 in funding to the Lawrence Douglas County Bioscience Authority for construction and operation of a new incubator facility that is planned for Kansas University’s West Campus. It would be the first payment of a 10-year, $750,000 pledge the city has made to the project.

In June, city commissioners placed the $75,000 in the city’s budget, but the city has not provided the payment to the Bioscience Authority because the proposal for an incubator facility had not won approval from state bioscience officials. In March, the Kansas Bioscience Authority agreed to provide $3.25 million. The incubator is designed to provide lab and office space for start-up companies that use research conducted at KU.
