Big 12 Roundup: McCoy, ‘Horns rout Razorbacks

Austin, Texas – Forget the famous rivalry. Colt McCoy and No. 7 Texas clobbered Arkansas like any other early season warmup.

And when the most lopsided game between the border foes in decades was over, all Razorbacks coach Bobby Petrino could do Saturday was collapse into a chair and sigh. Hard.

“That’s a beating,” Petrino said after the 52-10 Texas win.

It came at the hands of another near-perfect performance by McCoy, who put up five touchdowns and has Texas (4-0) coasting into its Big 12 schedule.

The loss was the worst in the series since a 52-0 Texas shutout in 1916 and the fourth-most lopsided meeting between the schools.

No. 2 Oklahoma 35, No. 24 TCU 10

Norman, Okla. – With a dominant defense and Sam Bradford’s pinpoint passing, Oklahoma is on its way back to No. 1.

Bradford threw for a career-best 411 yards and four touchdowns, Manuel Johnson set a school record with 206 yards receiving and OU avenged TCU’s victory in Norman from 2005.

Texas A&M 21, Army 17

College Station, Texas – Texas A&M lost quarterback Stephen McGee again and still managed to get a much-needed win.

Jerrod Johnson threw a touchdown pass after McGee re-injured his shoulder and the Aggies stopped Army on a late fourth down.

Florida St. 39, Colorado 21

Jacksonville, Fla. – After five interceptions a week ago, Florida State largely ignored its passing game Saturday and instead ran over Colorado in Bobby Bowden’s 500th game as a college coach.

Antone Smith ran for 154 yards and three touchdowns as FSU defeated the previously unbeaten Buffaloes.

Kansas State 45, Louisiana-Lafayette 37

Manhattan – Kansas State junior quarterback Josh Freeman threw for 272 yards and three touchdowns and became the school’s all-time passing leader with 6,238 career yards. With 35 touchdown passes, he’s only two shy of the record held by Ell Roberson.

Oklahoma St. 55, Troy 24

Stillwater, Okla. – Zac Robinson threw three touchdown passes to Dez Bryant, and Oklahoma State reached 50 points for the third consecutive game.

Oklahoma State (4-0) is undefeated after the nonconference portion of its schedule for the first time since 2005.

Virginia Tech 35, Nebraska 30

Lincoln, Neb. – Darren Evans scored two touchdowns, Dustin Keys kicked four field goals and Virginia Tech held off Nebraska’s comeback bid in the second half.

The Hokies have won four straight after losing their opener to East Carolina. The Huskers lost a nonconference home game for only the third time since 1991.
