Baker, Haskell looking for football victories

Baker University hopes to bounce back from a bummer. Haskell Indian Nations University is also on the comeback trail.

HINU’s football team will entertain Waldorf at 1 p.m. today at Haskell Stadium, while BU will go to Atchison for a 2 p.m. clash with Benedictine.

In playing its third straight home game, Haskell (1-3) hopes to rebound from Saturday’s 44-26 loss to MacMurray. The Fightin’ Indians outgained MacMurray, but were plagued by six turnovers.

Waldorf (1-3) owns a 17-13 victory over Dordt, but the Forest City, Iowa, school has been thumped by William Penn (41-3), Iowa Wesleyan (41-0) and St. Ambrose (42-3).

Playing in Baldwin City last week, Baker (1-2) blew a 21-6 lead early in the second half and bowed to Lindenwood, 25-21.

BU senior running back Richie Bryant was named Heart of America Athletic Conference player of the week after rushing for 124 yards and catching an 84-yard TD pass from Mack Brown.
