Rendezvous relives 19th-century days

The 19th-century fur trading era will be relived this weekend in Lecompton during the annual Bald Eagle Rendezvous.

Re-enactors dressed in period clothes will portray mountain men, plainsmen and fur traders. They will spend nights in tents and other forms of lodging in Bald Eagle River View Park on East Second Street, on the bluffs over the Kansas River.

The public is invited to watch the re-enactors put on demonstrations such as campfire cooking, hide tanning, flint and steel firestarting, beadwork, gunsmithing and knife throwing. Admission is free.

The rendezvous hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
