Top 25 Roundup: No. 15 East Carolina’s BCS chances squashed

Raleigh, N.C. – Andre Brown’s 10-yard touchdown run in overtime lifted North Carolina State to a 30-24 upset of No. 15 East Carolina.

Russell Wilson threw three touchdown passes – including a game-tying five-yarder to George Bryan with 1:12 left in regulation for the Wolfpack (2-2), seven-point underdogs to East Carolina, whose BCS-busting hopes are all but over after their second straight loss to N.C. State.

No. 3 Georgia 27, Arizona State 10

Tempe, Ariz. – Knowshon Moreno rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns, and A.J. Green caught eight passes for 159 yards for Georgia.

No. 4 Florida 30, Tennessee 6

Knoxville, Tenn. – Tim Tebow threw two touchdown passes and helped Florida coach Urban Meyer improve to 4-0 against the self-destructing Vols.

No. 9 Alabama 49, Arkansas 14

Fayeteville, Ark. – Javier Arenas and Justin Woodall scored on long interception returns, and Alabama opened SEC play with a rout of Arkansas.

No. 12 South Florida 17, Florida International 9

Miami – Mike Ford ran for two short touchdowns in a game marred by a scary injury to starting Bulls linebacker Brouce Mompremier.

Mompremier was injured after colliding with teammate Carlton Williams. Mompremier remained on the turf for about 20 minutes before being removed by ambulance and later airlifted to a downtown Miami hospital.

USF officials said Mompremier – a Miami native who had family at the game – was moving his arms and legs and was expected to remain hospitalized overnight for tests and observation.

No. 13 Ohio State 28, Troy 10

Columbus, Ohio – Terrelle Pryor took charge of Ohio State’s offense, throwing four touchdown passes to lead the sluggish Buckeyes over Troy.

Pryor was first true freshman to start for Ohio State in 30 years, and he ran the show for all but two plays before the game was out of reach.

Provo, Utah – Max Hall threw three touchdown passes, and BYU extended the nation’s longest winning streak with a second straight shutout in beating Wyoming.

No. 16 Penn State 45, Temple 3

State College, Pa. – The whereabouts of coach Joe Paterno was the most compelling part of the second half of Penn State’s matchup with Temple.

The 81-year-old Hall of Famer moved to the press box after halftime, after having complained of a sore right leg earlier this week.

Boise State 37, No. 17 Oregon 32

Eugene, Ore. – Kellen Moore threw for 386 yards and three touchdowns in his first road start, and Boise State upset Oregon as the Ducks’ quarterback troubles continued.

Jeremiah Masoli, a junior-college transfer who was projected as Oregon’s third-string quarterback going into the season, started but left the game in the first half with a reported concussion.

No. 18 Wake Forest 12, No. 24 Florida State 3

Tallahassee, Fla. – Sam Swank kicked four field goals, and Wake Forest forced a glaring seven Florida State turnovers.

Wake Forest, which improved to 3-0, ran its winning streak over the Seminoles to three games.

No. 20 Utah 30, Air Force 23

Air Force Academy, Colo. – Darrell Mack scored three second-half touchdowns, including a nine-yard run up the middle with 58 seconds remaining.

The Utes are 4-0 for the first time since 2004, when they went 12-0 in Urban Meyer’s last season before he bolted for Florida.

No. 23 Clemson 54, South Carolina St. 0

Clemson, S.C. – James Davis rushed for three touchdowns to lead Clemson’s rout of South Carolina State.

The Tigers (3-1) posted their first shutout in two years and improved to 22-0 against Championship Subdivision opponents. The senior Davis ran for 1,000 yards or more each of the past two seasons.

No. 25 Fresno State 55, Toledo 54 (2OT)

Toledo, Ohio – Nico Herron knocked down Aaron Opelt’s two-point conversion pass, and Fresno State held on in double overtime.

Toledo coach Tom Amstutz decided to go for the win after the Rockets scored on Opelt’s three-yard touchdown pass to tight end John Allen on fourth down.
