From the Lawrence Daily World for Sept. 21, 1908: “‘It will be the greatest year in the university’s history,’ was Chancellor Frank Strong’s comment this morning as he totaled up the registration figures and found them running far ahead of last fall. ‘I have predicted 2,250 enrollees and I feel confident we will push past that mark. We are off to a great start and there is every evidence of a great year.’ : The new gymnasium being built at Baker University is the largest building on campus. It replaces the building destroyed by fire about a year ago. : The Lawrence Paper Mill Co. has many new contracts that will lead to a $15,000 enlargement of local facilities. More than 50 new jobs are to be created. “
