The Astronomy Associates of Lawrence met Aug. 31 for their first public star party of the fall at Prairie Park Nature Center. More than 40 people viewed Jupiter and other celestial bodies through club members’ telescopes. The club’s next star party will be Sept. 28 at the same location. University Club Bridge announces results of its Sept. 13 meeting. Hosts were Paul and Carolyn Jordan.

Blue winners were Dale Kring, first; Tom Waller, second; Walt Hicks, third; Darlene Schneider, fourth; and Richard Quinn, fifth.

Pink winners were Wanda Kring, first; Jo Anne Kready, second; Carolyn Jordan, third; Carol Smith, fourth; and Bebe Huxtable, fifth.

Over the Rainbow Doll Club met Sept. 9 at the Lawrence Public Library for its annual open meeting. Special guest speaker was Debbie Tracy from Leawood. Tracy presented a program with information about Beatrice Alexander (Madame Alexander), the growth of the company, and the development of the production of MA dolls. Guests from the Lawrence Doll Collectors Club and the Leavenworth Doll Club along with several other guests attended the program. Next month’s meeting will be at the home of Janet Lukehart on Oct. 9. Club dolls should be dressed in Halloween costumes.

The Wednesday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on Sept. 10 was directed by Chris Lane. The North-South winners were Grant Sutton and Catherine Blumenfeld, first; Harry Shaffer and Ed Howard, second; Wanda Durbin and Suzanne Wassmer, third; Paul Heitzman and Chris Lane, fourth; Bobby Patton and Mark Osborn, second in B; and Bebe Huxtable and Wanna Roszel, first in C.
