Old Home Town – 40 years ago

Contracts were let for construction of the $2 million First National Bank and office building at Ninth and Massachusetts. Alfred Lindgren of Kansas City won the contract for overall construction. The Norris Brothers of Lawrence were chosen as the mechanical and electrical contractors.

Dr. W. Clarke Wescoe, Kansas University chancellor since 1960, announced his resignation, effective June 30, 1969, during his talk at the all-university convocation signaling the opening of 1968 fall classes. He announced no immediate plans but indicated he would head a large drug firm in New York, the Journal-World learned.
