Collector boosts ‘For Your Ears Only’ stock

Janis Hutchison sorts through donated records last week at Kansas Audio-Reader, 1120 W. 11th St.

Audiophiles of all sorts will flock to the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds this weekend for the annual “For Your Ears Only,” a benefit sale for the Kansas Audio-Reader Network.

This year’s sale features more than 12,000 vinyl records – including more than 5,000 LPs donated by a Canadian collector. His collection included British rock and Canadian pop spanning several decades.

In addition to music in various formats (most albums sell for $1, with CDs going for $3), the sale includes audio equipment such as turntables, reel-to-reel players and speakers.

Audio-Reader, which raised $20,000 from the sale last year, is a service based at Kansas University that provides audio broadcasts of printed materials for the visually impaired.

The sale runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Building 21 of the fairgrounds, 2120 Harper St. Admission on Friday is $10 at the door or $7 in advance at Audio-Reader, 1120 W. 11th St. Admission is free on Saturday, with prices cut to half-price after noon.
