National League Roundup: Phils move into tie for wild card

Phillies 7-6, Brewers 3-1

Philadelphia – Brett Myers received a standing ovation from the near-capacity crowd when he came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. The cheer grew even more deafening an inning later, when Myers got J.J. Hardy to fly to left for the final out.

Another September run has the Phillies in great position to make the playoffs.

Myers pitched a two-hitter, and the Phillies moved into a tie for the NL wild-card lead with the Brewers by sweeping them in a day-night doubleheader.

And with the Mets losing to Atlanta, Philadelphia moved within a game of the Mets in the NL East.

Marlins 8, Nationals 7

Miami – Josh Willingham drove in the go-ahead run for Florida.

Pirates 7, Cardinals 2

Pittsburgh – Adam LaRoche drove in three runs with a pair of hits, and Pittsburgh swept St. Louis.

Braves 7, Mets 4

New York – New York’s fill-in closer Luis Ayala gave up a go-ahead homer to pinch-hitter Greg Norton, and Atlanta rallied for five runs in the ninth inning. The loss trimmed New York’s tenuous NL East lead to one games.

Rockies 1, Dodgers 0 (10)

Denver – Troy Tulowitzki drove in the winning run with one out in the 10th to end two streaks: L.A.’s four-game winning streak and Colorado’s seven-game losing skid.

Phoenix – Corey Patterson homered to give Cincinnati the victory.

Giants 8, Padres 6 (10)

San Diego – Rookie Pablo Sandoval scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the 10th inning for the Giants.

Sandoval led off with a double against rookie Dirk Hayhurst, the Padres’ eighth pitcher. Sandoval went to third on Travis Ishikawa’s single and scored on a Hayhurst wild pitch.
