Officials lift state of emergency in Bangkok

? Thailand’s acting prime minister has lifted a state of emergency in Bangkok that was imposed Sept. 2 amid an ongoing political crisis.

Acting Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat made the announcement today after meeting with the country’s army chief and other senior security officials.

He said that political tensions remained but they did not justify keeping the Thai capital under emergency rule.

A state of emergency rule was imposed 12 days ago after violent clashes between government supporters and opponents left one person dead. Calm was quickly restored.
