New York - Jonathon Niese pitched eight poised innings in his second major league start, David Wright hit the first of three Mets homers, and New York beat Atlanta for a doubleheader split. Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran also connected to help the NL East leaders avoid a costly sweep. New York is 21â2 games ahead of second-place Philadelphia - three up in the loss column - with 15 to play.

Miami - Hanley Ramirez and Jorge Cantu homered to help Florida beat Washington.

Phoenix - Former Diamondback Micah Owings doubled in the deciding run in the 10th inning.

Denver - Clayton Kershaw (4-5) allowed just four singles in six innings.

Pirates 7, Cardinals 6 (12)

Pittsburgh - Brandon Moss doubled with two outs in the 12th inning to score Adam LaRoche.
