Lawrence High School Class of 1973 will have its 35th reunion Sept. 19-20.

Events for Sept. 19 include the homecoming parade and football game. For the parade, meet at 1 p.m. at South Park. The parade will be at 2:30 p.m. and the route will be from South Park to LHS. For the football game, meet at 6 p.m. at Haskell Indian Nations University’s northeast parking lot for a tailgate party. At 7:30 p.m., the class will attend the game and sit on the north side of the stadium. Tickets for the game are $4-5.

A dinner and dance will be from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Sept. 20 at Alvamar Country Club, 1809 Crossgate. Dress is business casual.

The Lawrence High School Class Reunion Committee is Bill Newman, Susan Sigler-Postlethwaite, Debbie Mills Shafer and Mark Stiles.

Amy Beets Loveland and Doug Loveland, Overland Park, announce the birth of their son, Quentin Lawrence Loveland, born Aug. 29, 2008, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

Quentin has a brother, Reese, 8, and two sisters, Sofia, 5, and Georgia, 2.

His maternal grandparents are Lynn and Phil Beets, Lawrence. His paternal grandparents are Chuck and Mary Loveland, Lawrence. His great-grandparent is Iris Faust, Derby.

Reba B. Bennett, Lawrence, will be turning 70 on Sept. 23, and her family is having an open house to celebrate.

The open house will be from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at South Park Community Center, 1141 Mass. Friends and family are invited.

Bennett has lived in Lawrence since 1960. She sold Avon for more than 25 years. She is an active member of Lawrence Wesleyan Church. She was voted the Kansas Lay Wesleyan of the Year in 1997.

Her husband is the late Larry Bennett. Their children are Christopher Bennett, Pamela Patterson and Michael L. Bennett.

Zach Henderson, Lawrence, was awarded the Community of Learners Scholarship from the University of North Dakota for the 2008-09 academic year.

He is a graduate of Lawrence High School and the son of Shawn and Sue Henderson.

Stephanie Shipstead Moore and Jason Moore, San Diego, announce the birth of their daughter, Phoebe May Moore, born Aug. 14, 2008, in San Diego.

Phoebe has a sister, Ella Marie Moore, 2.

Her maternal grandparents are Jacque and Sam Shipstead, Lawrence. Her paternal grandparents are John and Joyce Moore, Cottage Grove, Ore. Her great-grandparents are Dr. George and Ella Marie Brahler, Lawrence, and the late Lee and Betty Shipstead.

Nicole Adema, Lawrence, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in music business on May 18 from Greenville College in Greenville, Ill.

She is the daughter of Donald and Betty Adema, Lawrence.

Jocilyn Oyler Vermooten and David Vermooten, Lawrence, announce the birth of their daughter, Annika Katherine Oyler Vermooten, born Aug. 3, 2008, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Annika has a sister, Isabella Corinne Oyler Vermooten, 4.

Her maternal grandparents are Robert and Caryn Oyler and Julie Lonsinger, all of Lawrence. Her paternal grandparents are Bill and Ginger Vermooten, Lawrence. Her great-grandparents are Harriet Smith, Lawrence; Margaret Oyler, Lawrence; and Donna Wager, California.

Brenda and Gary Brown, Lawrence, announce the birth of their daughter, Lucy Faye Brown, born, Aug. 28, 2008, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

Lucy has a brother, Jeff Wymer-Brown, 8.

Her maternal grandparents are Joe and Kay Johnston, Cawker City. Her paternal grandparents are the late William and Doris Brown.

Kansas University’s School of Medicine welcomed 175 first-year medical students to the Class of 2012 during its 11th annual White Coat Ceremony on Aug. 1 in Battenfeld Auditorium.

During the ceremony, faculty and staff gave students white coats that represent their inauguration into the medical profession.

Amanda and Chad Mische, Lawrence, announce the birth of their son, Garrett Lee Mische, born Aug. 11, 2008, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Garrett has two brothers, Lucas, 8, and Clayton, 2.

His maternal grandparents are J. Alan and Rita Winter, Eudora. His paternal grandparents are Joyce Black, Pomona, and Rick Mische, Lawrence. His great-grandparents are Dean and Gloria Belcher, Pratt; Willie Ethel Young, Dalhart, Texas; the late Kelsey Young; Thelma Black, Valley Center; the late Lloyd Black, the late Margaret Sorenson, Lily Mische, Phoenix; and the late Lawrence Mische.

Sarah Ballard-Hanson, Lawrence, has joined Teach For America, the national corps of top recent college graduates who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools.

She is a 2004 graduate of Free State High School and a graduate of Lewis and Clark College. Ballard-Hanson will teach in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Parendi Birdie, of Lawrence, and Tess Wilson, of Meriden, along with 78 other women from 14 countries participated in the weeklong Women2Women Cultural Connection and Leadership Conference (W2W) on Aug. 11 at Lesley University in Boston.

The young women, ages 15-19, were accepted into the program based on their academic achievements, dedication to their community, leadership participation, essays, extracurricular activities and recommendations. The goal of the conference was to provide young female students from around the world with the opportunity to learn, network and acquire leadership and professional development skills.

Throughout the week, the women heard from a variety of influential leaders, participated in panel discussions and workshops, which explored leadership, women’s rights, media, government and politics.

Haley Holwick, McClouth, along with 28 other high school students from Kansas electric cooperatives, joined youths from Colorado, Oklahoma and Wyoming at the Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp July 12-18 in Steamboat Springs, Colo.

At the camp, the students created their own cooperative complete with a board of trustees and general manager selected by the students. Other activities included legislative presentations, a high voltage display and a competition to build a transmission line from craft supplies. Students also toured Craig Power Plant and Trapper Mine.

Holwick was selected through a competition by the Leavenworth-Jefferson Electric Cooperative and she was also chosen to return in 2009 as an ambassador.
