Area Football Roundup: Chieftains move to 2-0

Osawatomie – Tonganoxie High’s football team used a running-back-by-committee strategy to run all over Osawatomie, 23-6, Friday night.

The Chieftains – who did not complete a pass attempt – used six different runnings backs to rush for 321 yards and improve to 2-0 on the season.

The victory already eclipsed Tonganoxie’s total from last season.

Quarterback Zack Robinson led the way, rushing for 147 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries.

Junior Austen Holloway accounted for two touchdowns, scoring the first and last TDs of the game.

Tonganonxie will travel to Perry-Lecompton on Friday.

Anderson County 15, Santa Fe Trail 14

Carbondale – Anderson County blocked a punt late and punched the ball in from six yards out in claiming a victory over Santa Fe Trail on Friday night.

Perry-Lecompton 18, Kansas City Ward 3

Kansas City, Kan – Quarterback Shane Gimzo rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries as the Kaws improved to 1-1. Gimzo also completed eight of 19 passes for 80 yards. The game was moved to Piper High because of wet field conditions.

Perry-Lecompton takes on Tonganoxie at home next week for homecoming.

Oskaloosa 44, Immaculata 8

Oskaloosa – Bears running back Brandon Barnes rushed for 146 yards on nine carries, scoring two touchdowns. He also contributed a pass reception for a TD, helping Oksaloosa move to 2-0.

The game originally was scheduled to be played at Immaculata, but wet field conditions moved the contest to Oskaloosa, allowing the Bears to play at home.

Mill Valley 21, Piper 6

Shawnee – Kellen Kinnamon ran for two touchdowns as Mill Valley moved to 1-1. Piper fell to 0-2.

The Jaguars will travel to Basehor-Linwood next week.

Wellsville 8, Jayhawk-Linn 0

Wellsville – Dalton Hughes provided the only scoring of the night when he ran in a one-yard touchdown, which helped Wellsville improve to 1-1.

Paola 35, Ottawa 0

Ottawa – The Cyclones fell to 0-2 in a game played at Ottawa University. Ottawa High will travel to Eudora High next week.
