From the Lawrence Daily World for Sept. 9, 1908: The city council is planning for more meetings to wrestle with the electric street car question, which has been bothering it for the past two months. Three agencies are seeking franchises and only one can succeed. : The regents of the university will meet Thursday to let the contract for the new mining engineering building. The work is to be done this fall and next spring between the new general engineering building and Robinson Gymnasium. It will be two stories with a large annex. : Secret Service people are reticent to discuss an attempt on President Roosevelt’s life. But word is the assailant either is deranged or a very good actor. A closed insanity hearing is planned.”
