Feeling frazzled and fried but don't have the time, energy or money to hit a spa for a massage, manicure or body scrub? If you have the bathtub, there are budget-friendly solutions on how you can create an at-home spa without the hassles and sticker shock.
Carve out a sanity spa zone
Set aside at least two hours when you're sure you won't be interrupted by phone calls, husbands, kids, boyfriends, your mother-in-law or the UPS guy. If you have to schedule your spa day between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. because it's the only time in your day when you can get a little peace, so be it.
Advance planning never hurts
Set up for your downtime by making sure you have plenty of washcloths and towels on hand as well as the ingredients for cooking up some easy spa products. If you can boil water, you can make these recipes. Finally, if your kids or spouse plan to be around the house on your designated spa day, hang a "Do Not Disturb" or "Scram" sign on the bathroom door.
Create a restful vibe
It's easy to turn your bathroom into an oasis of peace. 1. Light a candle or two. 2. Turn off the lights. 3. Put on some soothing music or a relaxation tape.
Prepare the tub
Toss a handful of homemade bubble bath or bath salts into the tub for a soothing soak minus the harsh ingredients contained in many commercial bubble bath solutions. You can find a wide selection of essential oils at health food stores.

1/2 cup liquid soap
1/4 cup honey
1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Homemade foaming bath salts
1/2 cup liquid soap
1 tablespoon light oil
6 cups rock salt crystals
Food coloring
Directions: Mix soap, oil and food coloring together and pour this mixture over the rock salt in a large bowl. Stir continuously until the salt crystals are evenly coated. Spread the salts out in a thin layer on a cookie sheet covered with wax paper and allow to air dry for 24 hours.
