Bikers for Babies set for Sunday

More than 8,000 cycles are expected to motor through part of North Lawrence during Sunday’s 2008 March of Dimes Bikers for Babies, a rally whose riders are aiming to surpass last year’s record donations.

The route, which begins and ends at the Kansas Speedway, includes parts of Kansas Highway 32, U.S. Highway 24/40, U.S. 24/59 and Wellman Road. It will pass the Lawrence Municipal Airport and go through McLouth, Tonganoxie and Kansas City, Kan. Riders plan to be on the road from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Last year, more than 6,500 riders raised $723,000 for the March of Dimes, supporting research grants addressing premature births and community programs. Since 1995, riders in the greater Kansas City area have generated $3.1 million in donations.
