Judge retires amid disciplinary case

? Leavenworth County District Judge Frederick N. Stewart is retiring, but state officials plan to continue a disciplinary case against him.

The Kansas Commission on Judicial Qualifications is investigating allegations that Stewart made inappropriate sexual advances to administrative assistant Christine Helm from 1999 to 2007.

Stewart has denied the allegations. A date for his hearing before the commission has not been set.

Stewart’s attorney, Michael Gibbens, says Stewart has contemplated retirement for two years and his decision has nothing to do with the complaint against him.
