Roundup: Baldwin routs Paola, 21-7

? For the first time since 2005, Baldwin High has won its opening football game.

Led by senior Sam Beecher, the Bulldogs beat Paola, 21-7, on Friday night.

Beecher rushed for two touchdowns and threw for the other score.

“We haven’t won the first game in two years,” Baldwin coach Mike Berg said. “It was a great win, and that was our goal tonight.”

Spring Hil 14, Eudora 13

Spring Hill – Senior Ryan Fisher rushed for 204 yards off 33 carries and scored two touchdowns in Eudora High’s loss to Spring Hill.

William Gadberry had 51 yards off nine carries and Christian Richardson 22 yards off five carries. Spring Hill scored the winning points on a TD with 2:36 to play.

BV West 19, Mill Valley 0

Overland Park – The defending Class 5A state champions had their hands full early with Mill Valley, but eventually Blue Valley West pulled away for a victory at Blue Valley Stadium.

Mill Valley managed just 82 yards of offense. Running back Nick Woods led the way with 63 yards rushing on 14 carries.

G-E 39, De Soto 0

De Soto – Isaac Mallory caught two touchdowns and threw for another as Gardner-Edgerton routed De Soto.

Basehor-Linwood 23, Santa Fe Trail 7

Basehor – Brandon Leppke completed eight of 11 passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns to lead Basehor.

Oskaloosa 28, Valley Falls 8

Oskaloosa – Adam Bowser scored three touchdowns as Oskaloosa pulled away from Valley Falls in the second half.

Bowser got the scoring started in the second quarter with a fumble recovery for a touchdown. After Valley Falls tied the game in the third quarter at 8, Brandon Barnes put the Bears ahead to stay.

Bowser then passed for a TD and ran for one.

McLouth 34, Immaculata 6

Leavenworth – McLouth gained 339 yards of total offense, while Immaculata managed 162 yards.

Louisburg 40, Ottawa 7

Louisburg – Gene Dydell scored on a 51-yard run in the fourth quarter for Ottawa’s lone score.

Rossville 56, Wellsville 8

Rossville – Drake Carolan’s two-yard run was Wellsville’s only score.
