From the Lawrence Daily World for Sept. 3, 1908: “The people of Lawrence will have to wait another week before learning the fate of those seeking franchises for electric street car operations here. Current city council attention is focused on paving jobs that need to be done before winter. : City schools are about to open and enrollment will be next Monday at the high school. The new Manual High School building will be used for the first time this fall and many changes are expected. : Frances Schlegel Carruth, wife of Prof. William Herbert Carruth, vice chancellor of the university, died this morning at the family home after an illness lasting only a few days.”
