From the Lawrence Daily World for Sept. 1, 1908: “A Eudora man who operates a joint in Eudora was sentenced to 90 days in jail and fined $200 in court this morning. : A man who lost a hand in a work accident at the Bowersock Mill and sued for $8,000 had his award dropped to $6,500 today. Bowersock says it plans an appeal. : The past August has proved to be the wettest in the 40 years that records have been kept here. The rainfall for the month was 6.86 inches, which is 2.65 inches above normal, according to Dr. Snow of the university. For the year, the moisture total is 7 inches above normal. Temperatures for August, however, were about normal. : Police yesterday arrested a woman wandering in North Lawrence and she appears to be partially demented. She got off the evening Union Pacific train here and began wandering until she was picked up. : Mail order businesses have seen a drop in their business because too many advertise one product and produce another when it is sent out.”
