The Douglas County Sheriff's Office will be conducting a driver's license check lane between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. Sunday, the law enforcement agency announced Thursday.

Sheriff's deputies will setup the check lane east of Lawrence on North 1500 Road, spokeswoman Lt. Kari Wempe said. The road runs between Lawrence and Eudora. It is the extension of East 15th Street.

Time falls back at 2 a.m. Sunday, marking the end of Daylight Saving Time and allowing bars to stay open an extra hour. Some bartenders say they are expecting a rowdier crowd Saturday night and early Sunday morning, following the Kansas University-Kansas State University football game.

ClaroAtaxia, this is my guess what would happen to you. After you nearly hit a deputy or two by driving through the Legal checklane, they would jump in there cars and pursue you. You could either stop or have stop sticks thrown and now be out 4 tires. They would then pull you out of your car and when you started to explain to them that this was an illegal lane and that you had 2 weeks of KU law school before flunking out, you would be hit with one of those taser gun things. Then placed under arrest and taken to jail for PURE STUPIDITY. Please wiseguy, do this is front of their police cameras if they have them, so I could see you on the worlds stupidest criminals.

OK, several points -They have to "announce" in advance that they are doing this, so that they are within the law. And YES they are legal. The supreme court has ruled on this and as long as they follow certain requirement (i.e. announcing, stoping certain # or all cars) they are legal to do so.I would NOT want to follow ClarAtaxia's advise. What will happen to you won't be pretty.

You folks better get used to being stopped for your "papers". The use of unConstitutional check points will become enormous in coming years, especially if we get our National ID Card that Congress has already approved but is being fought by the states."Papers please sir."

ok here is the deal, they do not have to let you know where it is just post a notice that they are going to do this... also the location that they are doing it will get the ones that are coming or going to the outhouse.... you know they will have a large amount of officers in town on saturday, so they need to set up some in several different locations around the county. i have talked to a few officers, and gave them hints to where to put them but they never listen... and on the other hand all of you ppl. that are talking smack about these checkpoints... well if you followed the rules you would have nothing to worry about so grow up... all these officers are doing is trying to take the stupid drunk drugged and suspended un insured morons off the road. so please stop complaining about the men and women just doing the job they wake up to do they are people just like you and i... one of these days you complainers will need them.. HOWIE OUT

I don't understand how they are going to get people to stop. I don't know about you, but if I drive down a road with a ton of cops parked I ain't stopping or putting my window down. They have to pull you over for a traffic violation before you are required to stop. Anyone who drives through this and willingly slows down and drops their window is a legal moron!People need to grow up and use the rights they have before crap like this becomes the status quo.
