Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Oct. 30, 1908: “About 200 KU students will go home next week to vote in the election. No holiday has been declared but those who go home to vote will not be considered absent. The political parties are unable to pay for transportation or as many as 400 at KU might have left for the elections. : On account of the high price of corn, Douglas County farmers are rushing their hogs to market by the carload. Fewer hogs will be fed here this winter than has been the case for years. : Memorial services are planned Nov. 10 in Fraser Hall for Dr. F.H. Snow, the beloved ex-chancellor of the university. Dr. Snow was a man of many accomplishments in science and education and some of the top speakers in the area will help with the service. Many local businesses will close for the service.”
