Morgan outspending Francisco in Kansas Senate race

In the race for Senate District 2, Republican challenger Scott Morgan has been outspending incumbent Democratic state Sen. Marci Francisco.

For the period from July 25 through Oct. 23, Morgan spent $43,014, compared with Francisco’s expenses of $29,426.

Both candidates raised similar amounts during the three months — Morgan, $26,005 and Francisco, $23,304.

At the end of the reporting period, Morgan had $86 cash on hand while Francisco had $13,516.

Morgan loaned his campaign $10,000 and received $3,500 from the Senate Republican Leadership Committee, $1,800 in an in-kind contribution from the Kansas Republican Senatorial Committee for two polls, and $1,000 from the same group.

He also received $1,000 each from Monte Johnson of Lawrence, Kay Johnson of Lawrence, the Restore America PAC of Topeka and the Kansas Contractors Association.

Francisco’s largest contributors included $1,000 from Kansans for Lifesaving Cures, Jean Francisco, Life Sciences Fund of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce PAC, Kansas AFL-CIO, and the Kansas-National Education Association.
