4-H news

The Lone Star 4-H Club met Oct. 13 at the Lone Star Church of the Brethren. Chris Berg, acting president, called the meeting to order. Rowan Plinsky, Bethany Ledom and Megan Williams led the group in “Deck the Patch.” For roll call, members responded to “What was your favorite Halloween costume?”

Mary Berg gave the community leader report. This year 88 percent of the club members completed and turned in their record books. Berg congratulated those members and announced they would be recognized. She also thanked members who made posters to display at school and in downtown Lawrence.

Dues for the Kansas Youth Leadership Forum were discussed. A leadership project meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Berg home, prior to the fall party.

The countywide 4-H achievement celebration will be Nov. 2. A reservation is required. Please let Berg know if you plan to attend.

Enrollment cards are due for the 2009 4-H year as soon as possible to the Douglas County Extension Office. A chairman is needed for the Adopt-A-Family Christmas project. Each family was asked to sign up for at least two committees and two presentations.

New officers for the 2009 4-H year were inducted. A Quiz-Bowl game was played with topics on various 4-H projects; prizes were given to participants.
