Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Oct. 23, 1908: “Just as he stepped outside the barn door on John Moran’s farm north of Lawrence yesterday, Peter Marsouin, a young fellow working there, was struck by lightning and instantly killed. It occurred during a local cloudburst. The young man was from New Jersey and was visiting relatives here. : The voting registration books close tomorrow and those who have not signed up will not be able to vote in November. The city clerk predicts a final registration of more than 2,300 citizens. : Uncle Sam needs men, not for the army or navy but to fill many positions open under the civil service rules of the United States. The government says it has openings for people in all walks of life.”
