New York City Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin says she supports a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, a break with John McCain, who has said he believes states should be left to define what marriage is.
In an interview with Christian Broadcasting Network, the Alaska governor said she had voted in 1998 for a state amendment banning same sex marriage and hoped to see a federal ban on such unions.
McCain, an Arizona senator, is supporting a ballot initiative in his state this year that would ban gay marriage. But he has consistently opposed a federal marriage amendment, saying it would usurp states' authority on such matters.

Perhaps she should support a ban on forcing a teen to get married just because she's knocked up. It seems much more relevant to Palin's life.

Wouldn't expect anything different from her. She's a backwoods, ignorant, bible-thumping, self-righteous, arrogant bee****. Don't worry--after November, she'll slither back into the woodwork and, from there, into the footnotes of history.Did you see the piece on Wasilla on The Daily Show last night? Hysterical--but scary to think these people are real. The segment with the current mayor says everything you need to know. And the guy at the bar with the "interesting" tattoo--a fine representative of the values of the "real" America Palin blathers about. Be sure to watch it online if you missed it.Colbert's show was a classic, too. He took on the ignorant b's declaration of small towns being more "pro-America" than big cities. Watch clips of ignorant hayseeds behaving like.... ignorant hayseeds--and not very pro-American ones, at that. The parting shot of the (in Palin's opinion, apparently) less-than-patriotic NY firemen soldiering on through the thick smoke on 9/11/01 drove home the point of how misguided, ignorant, and smug her comments and opinions are.

Palin probably thinks homosexuals are "anti-American" and only exist in "anti-American" locales like San Fransisco and NYC. An amendment banning gay marriage is absurd--other countries allow gay marriage and have somehow managed to avoid smiting from God. The gay rights movement is the perhaps the last international civil rights movement, and it appears that America is stuck in 1954.

Other countries have also managed to stay in the forefront of politics and world affairs while allowing gay marriage, and didn't return to the dark ages as some people seem to think will happen.

Yeah, because gay marriage will lead to the downfall of the American family. Wait, one of her kids is knocked up out of wedlock. Hmmmm...

Too bad the concepts of freedom of speech and freedom of expression are only okay for professors on the KU Campus and not in the real world

Sorry, Andrew, doesn't cut it. Having access, even mandated access, to a alternative viewpoint in no way infringes on a parent's ability to be the primary guidance of their children's moral guidance. What you had there was the desire to constrict the child's education on the part of the parents, to engage in their own specific indocrination (which, if they want to do, they should home-school) and I wonder if you'd have the same thought if they wanted to opt out of math or science class. (Oh wait, now there probably are people who want their children to opt out of science class)

Oh dear God, Kansas778 is turning into Marion! Please, Kansas778, I tell you this because, in the end, I generally respect you as a poster. Don't fall prey to the Marion Lynn (tm) brand of self-referencing!

BigDog, I defend to the end to say whatever you want. After you say it you ar oepn to whatever criticism you bring down upon yourself. Freedom of speech does not equate to respect of opinion.
