Lightning is blamed for the power outage that left more than 1,300 homes and businesses in Lawrence without power Tuesday evening.

Electricity was cut about 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. All power was restored about an hour and a half later.

Areas affected were between Sixth and Ninth Streets, from Massachusetts Street to Haskell Avenue.

Several customers in Leavenworth County also lost power for a time.

So, uh, LJW, where's the emphasis on local coverage? The no. of powerless homes pulled from Westar's Web site and a quote from their rep. that says nothing is all we get? I know it's after 5 p.m., but what good is a failsafe Interweb without any content?P.S. It's dark in E. Lawrence. Hooray for laptops and routers plugged into uninterruptible power supplies.
