Kid reads ‘Frindle’

In this story by Andrew Clements, there are four main characters – Nick, Mrs. Granger, Nick’s mom and Nick’s dad.

Nick is in the fifth grade, is a trouble-maker and has many creative ideas. All the kids in Nick’s school describe Mrs. Granger as the strictest teacher because she always gives out homework and she always makes kids use the dictionary. Nick’s mom and dad have to deal with problems that arise in this story, such as when the principal goes to their house.

This book is about Nick replacing the word “pen” with the made-up word “frindle.” Mrs. Granger got mad and tried to stop everyone from using the word.

I do not recommend this book because it is not realistic. Most teachers wouldn’t care if their students used the word frindle. Also, it is not realistic that using the word frindle instead of pen would spread so quickly around the world.

But, if you like Andrew Clements as an author, then you might like this book.
