Old Home Town – 25 years ago

Local Presbyterians had been celebrating 125 years in the city. The congregation had moved from its old quarters on the corner of Ninth and Vermont Streets and now had a new and modern building at 2425 W. 23rd. A new anthem for the celebration had been written by John Pozdro, a professor of music at KU.

Judge Ralph King ruled that a petition opposing the use of a home by the Lawrence Indian Center was valid, reversing a split City Commission decision that had approved the center. The site was at 101 E. 23rd.

There appeared to be growing doubts by local officials about the plans to select a downtown developer.
