KU swimming, diving team tops Arizona St.

? Kansas University senior Maria Mayrovich and junior Emily Lanteigne each won two freestyle events Friday as the KU swimming and diving team defeated No. 16 Arizona State, 149-147, at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in the first dual meet for both schools.

The Jayhawks won four of the five freestyle events.

In the final event, KU placed second and third in the 200-yard free relay to score six points and clinch its first victory of the season.

“This was really big victory for our program,” Kansas head coach Clark Campbell said. “We capitalized in some key areas of the meet. Our divers did a tremendous job, and I thought our swimmers stepped up and had perhaps their best meet in the seven years I’ve been at Kansas. This was a great way to start the year.”
