K-State event draws 5,000

Beasley appears on video at Bramlage

? Michael Beasley is gone from Manhattan, but there he was by video Friday night, getting Kansas State basketball fans worked up for the upcoming season.

Dressed in his Miami Heat uniform, Beasley appeared on the JumboTron in Bramlage Coliseum where about 5,000 fans showed up for “Madness in Manhattan” and a preseason coed scrimmage. He drew laughs and cheers as he attempted to lead a “K-S-U, Wildcats” chant.

Wildcat fans got their first glimpses of what their team will look like without Beasley, who was picked No. 2 overall by the Heat in this year’s NBA Draft. The men’s and women’s teams scrimmaged for 15 minutes in a mixed coed game.

“You guys are in midseason form already,” second-year coach Frank Martin told the fans in the half-empty arena. “I like it. I like it. We’ve got the greatest fans in college basketball.”

The white team beat the purple team, 46-35. Ron Anderson and Jamar Samuels both had 12 points to lead all scorers.
