HINU seniors to play home finale

Baker's three-game winning streak on line against Evangel

Senior Day comes early for Haskell Indian Nations University’s football team. HINU’s home finale will be today.

Meanwhile, Baker University hopes to maintain momentum when it plays host to Evangel.

Due to a schedule quirk, the Fightin’ Indians’ clash with McPherson College will be their last of the season at Haskell Stadium.

Kickoff will be at 2 p.m. HINU’s last three games will be on the road.

Baker (4-2), ranked No. 26 in this week’s NAIA poll after posting three straight victories, will face the Crusaders at 6 p.m. at Liston Stadium in Baldwin City. Evangel is 3-3 overall.

BU senior running back Richie Bryant continues to lead the Heart of America Athletic Conference in rushing with 680 yards. Bryant has scored nine touchdowns.

Baker rallied from a 21-point deficit to topple William Jewell, 38-28, Saturday in Liberty, Mo. Derek Doerfler’s 39-yard field goal with 17 seconds left gave BU a 31-28 lead, then defensive lineman Kyle Weinmaster, a freshman from Free State High, returned a fumble for the final TD.

Haskell (2-5) is coming off a 37-6 loss at St. Mary last Saturday in Leavenworth. McPherson (2-3) also has played St. Mary, bowing to the Spires, 30-28, two weeks ago. Last year in McPherson, the Bulldogs tripped Haskell, 41-23.

HINU coach Eric Brock said he was undecided whether to start Ryan Alden or Victor Ramos at quarterback today. Alden has thrown for 1,620 yards and 14 TDs, but he also has thrown 13 interceptions.

Six HINU seniors will bow out today – K Matt Martens, DB Micah Swimmer, LB Mario Torres, DB Morris Denetdeel, FB John Sullivan and OL Daniel Lemos. Torres is out for the season due to a foot injury.
