Topeka ? The city’s representatives at the Class 6A state tennis tournament are finished after the first day.

Free State singles player Lauren Thames lost to Washburn Rural’s Avery Clifton, 6-0, 6-0, in the first round Friday at Kossover Tennis Center. Thames then lost to Maize’s Tiffany Khounsombath, 6-1, 6-2, in the consolation first round.

The Lawrence High duo of Jordan Payne and Elizabeth Simons fell to Maize’s Meredith Marney and Jackie Frentz, 6-2, 6-3, in the first round. Then in the consolation first round, Payne and Simons lost to Wichita East’s Sesily Jackson and Drea Shaver.
