Dr. Marisa Dahlman and Dr. James Bartscher, Chestnut Hill, Mass., announce the birth of their daughter, Sophie Annika Bartscher, born Sept. 30, 2008, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston.

Her maternal grandparents are Carl and Celia Dahlman, Chevy Chase, Md., and her paternal grandparents are Bill and Beverly Bartscher, Lawrence.

¢Rhea Miller and Adam Kehler, Lawrence, announce the birth of their son, Lukas Daniel Miller Kehler, born Oct. 4, 2008, at the Birth and Women’s Center in Topeka.

His maternal grandparents are Daniel and Linda Miller, Lancaster, Pa., and his paternal grandparents are Peter and Lenora Kehler, Landmark, Manitoba, Canada.

¢Meals On Wheels will host a reception for Clyde Thierry’s 100th birthday from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Room A. Cake and punch will be served.

¢Kansas University’s Department of Student Housing announces area students named as its 2008-09 student leaders, including resident assistants for KU’s eight residence halls, proctors and food board managers for 12 scholarship halls and top officers for the five university housing organizations.

For the 145 students chosen as live-in resident assistants, proctors, desk managers and food board managers, duties include serving as role models, handling administrative and programming duties and performing paraprofessional advisory functions for residents. Food board managers also coordinate menu planning and food purchasing for their assigned halls.

Housing organization officers are elected to represent their fellow student residents and organize and facilitate shared social, intellectual and cultural concerns and activities.

¢Emporia State Theatre and Music will open its 2008-2009 theater season with ESU’s 36th annual homecoming musical, “Something’s Afoot.”

Performances will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday with a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday in ESU’s Albert Taylor Hall.

The cast features area students Kyle Farmer, Tecumseh, as the butler and Roy Johnson, McLouth, as Nigel, the spoiled heir.
